I Heart My Parrucchiere

27 Jul

Yesterday was a sad, sad day in my hair’s history.

You see, I have been going to the same parrucchiere (pah-roo-kee-AIR-ae), hair stylist, for oh, around about seven years now. And yesterday was the last time I get to go before my move. It will be months, many months, before I can go back.

Sigh.

Can we talk for a moment about my parrucchiere? I heart him so.

His name is Alberto, and he is, as all good parrucchieri are, not only the man who cuts and colors (henna… shh!) my hair. He is my confessor, my style guru, my friend.

People, he is THE BEST PARRUCCHIERE in the WORLD. Trust me on this one.

Plus, he is totally hilarious and when I go to him we have many, many ha has. Just look at him! I mean, can you resist smiling? I doubt it!

He has the coolest salon in Testaccio. Check this place out. He painted the walls himself. Che artista!

When he washes your hair, you get to look at this chandelier. Fun stuff.

Here’s the thing about Alberto. He is not one of those “bring me a picture of what you want” parrucchieri. Oh, no, no, no, no!!!

Alberto does his best work when you just sit down and say, “I trust you. Do what you think is best.”

This is what I have been doing for at least the last five or six years. And it always seems to work out swimmingly well.

Plus, the man did my hair and makeup for my wedding (he doesn’t really do this but he did me a favor since we are amici), and when I was about to faint when he was applying mascara because of nerves and the fact that I hadn’t eaten, he called in the rescue team from his local bar to bring me a cornetto and some fruit juice.

I.e., the man saved my life!! See why I am so infatuated??

The cut he gave me yesterday is supposed to do ok for several months, seeing as how I won’t get back to Testaccio for a while. I brought my friend Roberta with me and she has become a convert to the religion of Laboratorio Figaro as well. I have converted many people over the years.

Alberto, I will miss you, my friend!!

Thanks for the tip Shelley! I’ve been hairdresser-less for a decade… I mean, I’ve gotten my hair cut in Rome by many different hairdressers BUT never found one that worked well for me (I do have a parucchiere di fiducia in NYC though).
I’ll definitely give your man a try and will tell him you sent me πŸ˜‰

Glad to see you blogging until you depart. I can’t believe you had a baby a few months ago and are in such a great forma. Bellissima!

BTW, Vincenzo looks so much like you.

    A presto,

    Carole

wow. this post made me envious and i really want to become friends with Alberto. too bad i live in austin πŸ™‚ my hairdresser is tight lipped and only speaks if i try to make conversation.

but her prices can’t be beat.

Ahh, but you are coming back to Seattle and I know a TON of hairdressers! I can recommend someone to “trim” your hair between visits to Alberto. We can’t have you cheating on him, now! πŸ™‚
    xoxo
